XMPie ‘Wows’ drupa with Groundbreaking Demonstrations

http://lh6.ggpht.com/eyalarie/SEN-tChG0YI/AAAAAAAABnU/PulMoOLLmng/20080530_0616.JPG?imgmax=512 At drupa 2008, the XMPie stand was the place to be for attendees looking to enhance their businesses with technology for creating and delivering relevant, result-orientated one-to-one marketing communications. The company maintained its trademark level of innovation in products and services and even developed a first-of-its-kind personalized movie to explain the benefits of XMPie’s software solutions. The movie was presented every 30 minutes to a new audience, resulting in an entirely unique version every time it was shown. Prior to every showing, relevant information from each theater participant — including name, company name and e-mail address — was captured and uploaded into an XMPie uProduce™ server. Individual records were then pulled from the database to incorporate into visuals used throughout the movie, making the movie truly personalized.

The same database used to create the movie visuals was also used to generate personalized sample campaign materials that were shared with show participants following the movie. In addition, a personalized e-mail was automatically generated and sent to each attendee directing them to a personalized Web site where they could select from any number of follow-up actions.

In addition to the theatre presentation, attendees also had the opportunity to experience a demonstration of XMPie’s Gossiping Cluster Technology. The demonstration showed that with this patented clustered computing technology, large variable data jobs can be broken into smaller sub jobs, uniquely distributed to multiple servers for concurrent processing and automatically managed for maximum speed efficiency. Following processing, the sub jobs are merged back together into one. The result is high-speed production for a wide range of job types — from marketing-focused communications to creative transpromo documents.

  • A New Rich Text Editor that is based on unique server-side font technology and gives users the flexibility to customize text and styles in any type of Adobe InDesign document, even if the document design contains fonts that are not installed on a store visitor’s computer.
  • uEdit™ Enhancements that allow customers to edit documents created with XLIM™ technology — XMPie's XML-based layout technology which allows for dramatically faster generation of variable data print stream files for graphically simple documents. uEdit allows users to edit both images and text frames within these documents and provides the option of scaling and rotating frames.

Tech Tip: Text File ADORs

Have you ever used Text File ADORs? A Text File ADOR is an asset. Like a Graphic ADOR, this ADOR’s value is a filename with no file extension required. You can place any length of text in your document with a text file, then if the text changes, you can just update it in the file.

This type of ADOR is great for small paragraphs of text, letter body text and even full articles for newsletters. While you can place regular text files (.txt) created with applications like Notepad (Windows) or Text Write (MAC), this text has no special formatting. The real power of a Text File ADOR is you can control the formatting of the placed text by using Rich Text files (.rtf) with simple formatting, Microsoft Word files with basic formatting (.doc), InDesign tagged-text (.txt) with ample formatting or XMPie XLIM™ formatted snippet text (.xnip).

Another powerful feature is the text you are placing can also contain ADORs. When we place ADORs within an ADOR we call it nesting. To do this, open your text file in an editing application and add the ADOR’s name within double curly braces, such as {{FirstName}}, then in InDesign, right-click (Windows) or ctrl-click (MAC) and choose “Dynamic Text Properties” then check “Enable Nested Composition.”
