Little Print Explorers: See XMPie Personalization Transform Print

The Connected Future of Personalized Publishing

What happens when personalized book creation and workflow automation come together?

With its new demo, XMPie is bringing that answer to life by teaming up with Enfocus and Canon to turn fully personalized content into beautifully printed children’s books and other bespoke print products in minutes. Starting from a single photo and a few personalization choices, visitors automatically receive a personalized storybook, a personalized poster, personalized postcards, and Mini-Me Character cut-outs.

A great example of how personalization, AI, workflow automation, print production, and finishing can be connected into one seamless customer experience – not to mention it’s a chance to take home a keepsake you’ll treasure.

Personalization That’s Ready for Production

At the core of this experience is a seamless integration between XMPie’s personalization platform, which transforms data and assets (in this case, generated by AI technology) into dynamic, highly relevant content at any scale across every channel, with Enfocus Switch workflow automation, and Canon production print, all working together to deliver efficiency and impact.

In this demo, we take a simple input— a child’s name, a few personal details, and a photo—and generate a fully personalized storybook. Every element is dynamically assembled: the narrative, the visuals and the storytelling arc. Each book is unique, built in real time from structured data and intelligent automation.

The Workflow: Automation Makes It Scalable

Every book is created from data to delivery without a single manual touch. The document itself is designed in Adobe InDesign and enabled for personalization using XMPie uCreate Print. the template is ready to generate a unique, personalized book on demand. Designers can work within their familiar Adobe environment while defining dynamic text, image, and QR code placeholders that XMPie populates with recipient-specific content at production time. The process then begins with data capture via a landing page, which is onboarded into an XMPie Circle campaign. From there the data triggers the automated workflow in Enfocus Switch, which performs the central orchestration role.

On receipt of the data, Switch orchestrates a series of AI-driven interactions with OpenAI, dynamically generating every visual set required for the storybook. This includes fully personalized imagery tailored to each recipient, alongside unique, context-aware story text. The resulting assets are automatically stored in Cloudinary, ensuring they are instantly accessible and ready to be seamlessly pulled into downstream production workflows.

Once all assets are ready, what follows is a two-step live data-exchange. First, Switch pushes the available data – including text and image URLs – back into XMPie via its API. This updates what is known about each recipient.

As the data required for each item becomes available, Switch sends separate API requests to XMPie to generate the personalized storybook, poster, and postcard. Each product is available in six color variations and can be produced in any of 11 supported languages, with localization managed consistently across the website, email communications, and all printed materials.  XMPie dynamically renders each piece as a high-resolution, print-ready PDF and automatically return the completed files to Switch for downstream processing.

The fully composed output is then managed by Switch as part of the pre-press workflow, before being sent to the Canon PRISMAsync print server and Canon production press for final printing.

This experience showcases the strength of an open architecture approach – bringing best-of-breed technologies like XMPie and Enfocus to deliver a seamless, scalable solution. Workflow automation, whether native to XMPie, or enabled through partners eliminates the traditional barriers to personalized print projects: complexity, cost, and time. Automation is what gives printers the capability to produce personalized print as the default instead of the exception.

And there’s more! On the back of the book is a personalized QR code, creating a direct bridge into a digital experience. This transforms the printed piece from a static product into an interactive touchpoint and extends engagement beyond the page to enable measurable, trackable responses. Print becomes the entry point into a broader, connected customer experience rather than the end destination.

The same workflow is also used for additional formats including postcards and posters – all generated from a single request so printers can expand campaigns effortlessly, reduce production overhead and deliver cohesive, omnichannel outputs that maximize reach and ROI.

Experience it for Yourself and turn a child into the hero of their own storybook

With this demo, we’re inviting you to experience what this means in practice. When a single photo and a few data points can trigger the creation of personalized books, postcards, posters, and digital experiences, mass-produced marketing starts to look decidedly old-fashioned.

This is personalization reimagined for modern production: not as a complex, high-touch project, but as a scalable, automated workflow. By connecting data, content generation, personalization, workflow automation, and print production, a single request can generate a complete customer experience across multiple formats and channels—making highly relevant communication both accessible and commercially viable.

Tell us about a child in your life and we’ll bring them to life as the hero of their very own AI-generated storybook. It’s created, processed, and printed in minutes.
